My students love this true story of rowing, resilience, athleticism, and teamwork; they are shocked by the obstacles that Joe Rantz faced in his life, and they are hopeful when they learn how Joe overcame them. Although my students are familiar with Nazi Germany, they really didn't know much about the 1936 Olympics until they read this book. Students glean so much from this quick and compelling read. T

Consequently, for every chapter I have three (mostly multiple part) questions, similar to exit tickets but a little longer and more detailed.
