I have been teaching since 1998 and have had the pleasure of working in the public school system. Over the course of my career, I have served as a teacher training specialist, a mentor facilitator, a curriculum designer, a virtual high school teacher, department coordinator, and a lead teacher.
I believe that students should have every opportunity to showcase their talents, understanding, and abilities in a way that addresses their learning style or multiple intelligence. I believe every student learns differently and it is my responsible to provide as many means to understanding to engage all learners. Students should be actively engaged in not only every lesson, but also in the overall design of the class. As far as teaching history, I present multiple perspectives on a historical event or person and allow students to be the judge.
Nominee, Global Teacher Prize/ Nominee, Disney Creativity in Teaching/ Nominee, CCSD New Teacher of the Year/ Nominee, Kiwanis Club Teacher of the Year/ Recognition, Who's Who Among America's Teachers/ Outstanding Teacher, National Honor Roll
I have a Bachelors degree in Sociology and Masters degree in Social Studies Education.
I love teaching and making history come alive for my students. My class is extremely student-centered with hands-on activities, active engagement strategies, project based learning, and extensive student led discussion. Every lesson I teach integrates primary and/or secondary source material. I differentiate all my lessons by content, process, product, or interest. As a staff developer, I model all of these strategies in my professional development sessions. I hope my materials can help you. Please don't hesitate to contact me with your questions. I would be happy to help!
