I have found Canción de la Semana to be a great way for students to appreciate music from other countries and be exposed to new sounds. These songs and videos are mostly for grades 9-12, but can also work for middle school. Canción de la Semana: Each week I choose a song to play at the beginning of class. This classic authentic song allows students to practice the subjunctive while they learn about the different foods and landscapes in the Dominican Republic. They will get some interpretive reading and listening practice as they interpret the lyrics of the song. Last they will watch the music video if there's time (it's very boring, and you may want to preview it first).
