It’s learning that sticks! Why? This interactive learning approach gets EVERY student MOVING, and as research shows, when students are moving, learning is optimized. EVERY neuron in the brain is fired up; which in turn, aids in the transference of information from short term memory of these sounds to long term memory retrieval. Movement is one of the very BEST teaching strategies for retention. Isn’t that what we’re all looking for as educators? Not just preparing our students for the test

Many of my students were struggling with learning and recognizing the differences between the six nonfiction text structures. So, I rewrote Iggy Azalea's "Fancy" to include information about cause and effect, question and answer, description, problem and solution, compare and contrast, and chronological order/sequence. Enjoy! Also, I changed "I.G.G.Y." to M.U.L.E because our school mascot is the mule. You could change that part to any four letter word or team you'd like.

Since many learners often remember information best through song, I have written words to eight familiar tunes so that students will know the components of eight effective reading strategies. The lyrics will lead children (and their teachers) to remember what connecting, predicting, questioning, clarifying, inferring, summarizing, synthesizing, and evaluating look and sound like. The visual and auditory combination helps students to be better prepared and organized while taking a test. I am thrilled with how my students apply the strategies in the song, and their scores reflect the success of this project. Match words with pictures by pressing the return button.
