If your students love music as much as mine do they will love this music analysis activity! Students are asked to listen to / read the lyrics for songs with a Hero Theme. They must choose their two favorites and discuss the meaning of the songs and why they like it. I also allow my students to pick any other song that they can find that relates to the hero theme. The song “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” by Band Aid (1984) is one example of “festive” music with a meaningful history. This lesson can stretch over 3+ days and lead to great class discussions about the meaning behind song lyrics.
