"Change For A Dollar" is a four minute, karaoke style music video, that students can sing along with to help learn about decimal place value. It focuses on the tenths and hundredths places, and how they represent dimes and pennies. This would make a good introduction to decimal place value, or another way to reinforce and review the concept. I use it with my sixth graders as a review or "Math Starter." The 4th and 5th grade classes at my school also use this song. Common Core 5.NBT.A.1 &

The Decimal Song

A few years ago, I had a conversation with students that led me to realize that many of them lack a basic understanding of the concept of a decimal (ie. it works like a fraction- it is less than one, or part of a whole). That led to me working this song into my math program. It is simple and catchy and hammers the point home, so that they won't (can't!) forget it. I used it as an introduction into decimals because it pumps up a unit that can otherwise get a bit dry. The tune is to the Banana

This is a fun song to the tune of a familiar TV theme song that helps students remember how to change a terminating or repeating decimal into a fraction. It will definitely help your students remember there is a big difference between the two conversions. I emphasize that terminating decimals end, die, RIP, like the Terminator ends your life. Then we talk about repeating decimals and how they are like the Energizer bunny that keeps going, and going, and going... The bunny ears we draw like 9'

This worksheet is designed to be used with my music video "Without You (My Calculator)" on my YouTube channel "mrsteffessongs". First, students fill in the blanks with lyrics from the video to see what they can do without a calculator. Then there are four sections of exercises or examples with three problems in each section. These include addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with decimals. An answer key is given but no detailed examples so my suggestion is to use this as an intro

This is a song about how to add, subtract, multiply and divide with decimals to the tune of "Wide Awake" by Katy Perry. My students and I sing this multiple times throughout the year to compute with decimals. I also use it as a call and response when students get stuck and don't know what to do. I'll watch students mouthing the words on tests and quizzes to help them remember. I've also gotten public performances when I've run into students outside of school. This is a catchy song (to the tune of Edge of Glory) that will have your students converting fractions to decimals in no time! The song teaches elementary math students the fraction and decimal forms of thirds, fourths, and fifths. Converting Fractions, Decimals, and Percents Song

I searched high and low for a succinct song to help my 6th and 7th graders remember how to convert between fractions, decimals, and percents. Couldn't find one, so I made my own. My students put the lyrics in their interactive notebooks, so this has not only the lyrics but also some examples. I quote the song as I model different conversions, and even in 8th grade my students remember and love the song. Very catchy and easy to understand!

Here is a rewrite song I made of Sunflower by Post Malone that's called Place Value (Moving by the 10's Power). This song goes over the different titles of the place value chart. It goes right along with the melody of Sunflower which is a very popular song that students should recognize. It works as a great way to get the students engaged and gives them a catchy song to help memorize their place value chart while also having fun and singing along.
