This lesson uses the R.A.F.T. principle---Role, audience, format, topic.
The students take on the role of Pope Leo III inviting Charlemagne to join him on Christmas day to receive the Holy Roman crown.
I included a sample of student work that is fabulous.
Personally, this lesson even helped ME ( THE TEACHER!) develop a better understanding of Charlemagne's significance.
