I developed this assignment to help students analyze the diction of "I Want a Wife" by Judy Brady. I use this essay as an introduction to Henrik Ibsen's play, A Doll's House. I have used this assignment with students of all levels in grades 9-12, and they always find it relevant and interesting. Students will be ready for discussion after reading this essay!I recommend following up this lesson with a Socratic Seminar on the text using the work students have done while analyzing the diction.

Once you have groups of 3-4, students assign their own roles each week, and choose which short story they'll read. Included in this pdf is my timetable I used in May-June 2017, the six weeks before the Regents exam. I did not include a plot chart in this resource, but again encourage you to find your own through an internet sear
