Trigonometry Golf
I like to call this activity Putt-Putt-Geometry. It is 9 glorious holes of trigonometry application! This works great as a Trig unit project, end of year project, or test review (maybe 1 or 2 holes for review). The students can work in groups, pairs, or individuals. If your students are not proficient with Trig, or you have not covered it yet, each hole can be done using the Pythagorean Theorem instead - simply tweak the directions a bit. I hope your students enjoy this as much as mine do!

Indirect Measurement Project: similar triangles, right triangle trigonometry
This is an outdoor project with 5 stations for students to acquire hands on experience with indirect measuring using different tools, right triangle trig, and similar triangles.
Station 1: The mirror method
Students use a mirror to create similar triangles and measure the height of a tall object.
Station 2: The clinometer method

Water Balloon Launcher Lab
This lab is very fun and exciting! The bonus is you get to go outdoors. You will use a standard water balloon launcher to calculate the maximum height a balloon went after being launch as well as the velocity of the balloon. There are two parts to the lab. This is a project for a geometry/trigonometry class in which students create their own word problems which require solving equations using the tangent, sine and cosine ratios. They must provide the angle and one side length. Additionally, they must write a problem that uses an inverse to find the missing angle. This project uses GeoGebra to graph piecewise fuctions in the first quadrant to construct a roller coaster. I use it with my honors geometry class, but it can also be used with an Algebra II, Algebra III, or Pre-Calculus class.
