My APUSH students are required to keep their notebook organized with all in-class activities and outside reading notes/learning guides. On assessment days they self-assess their notebook and complete a reflection piece. Encouraging meta-cognitive skills in this way will help students experience more success as they think about what is working, what isn't working, a

Writing Scaffolding Packet

In my sophomore and junior classes I begin the school year with these packets. I find that students have difficulty with writing. This packet shows students how to properly answer a question, how to write a topic sentence, and how to write a concluding sentence. I also created a five point Social Science rubric to assess their writing. I provide each of my students a copy of this packet at the beginning of the year and we use them almost daily. My students shared that sometimes they even use my

We also wrote example writings for each level so students can compare their writing with each level. This is a reflection sheet for students to fill out after a published draft. They reference the writing rubric to determine their level. They must write and highlight the evidence to justify their level.
