Tis the season for holiday STEM! Here is a SmartBoard activity that I made for a 2nd grade class. This Smart has directions, materials, charts and timers for the activity. Students are to build the tallest Christmas tree that they can in 15 minutes. At the beginning, I have the jobs broken down. For my class, I will not assign specific jobs, but for some classes it could be needed. For older grades, have the students graph their data they collected.

Linear Motion Notes, Graphs, and Mathematics (Smart Board)

This Smart Board presentation covers linear motion as taught in a General Physics class. It has developed over 34 years of teaching physics. (It could be simplified to a lower level of physical science.) It covers the concepts of distance, displacement, speed, velocity, and acceleration. It relates linear motion to displacement (position) vs time graphs as well as velocity vs time graphs. Interpretation of these graphs as it pertains to slope, area under curve and lines formed on the graphs

This was created for my first grade team as an outline for our Light and Sound unit. This correlates with the new science standards for first grade, and consists of investigations each day that lead to students discovering properties and new information about light and sound. Each day begins with a question, then students are either presented with a demonstration, video, or materials to explore, and then introduced to new vocabulary words. The kit we used had "treasure boxes" filled with the f
