Distinguishing Bond and Molecule Types
This paper lab uses an organizer to help students understand the differences between polar bonds, polar molecules, and nonpolar molecules. To achieve this, students draw various models of several carefully chosen compounds. My class is fortunate enough to have MolyMods, so that is included in the lab as well. If you don't have them, you can substitute with another model type, gumdrops and toothpicks, or you can omit that section.

Heat Calculations
This super-organized and mildly quirky PowerPoint introduces and explores heat calculations for substances not undergoing phase changes. Way back when I was in high school, I remembered the following equations... q = mC∆T or q = m•C•∆T or q = m•C•(Tf-Ti) simply as q=mCAT, so I put a picture of a cat in the PowerPoint to freak my students out and to help them remember the formulas.

Celsius to Kelvin Temperature Conversions
This PowerPoint addresses the construction of proper temperature scales around fixed points, whether they be based on water or absolute zero.
It also addresses the inconvenience of Fahrenheit in chemistry.
The meat of the lesson, however, is in the conversions. Formulas and practice questions are provided for converting between Celsius and Kelvin.
