McCarthyism and The Salem Witch Trials/ The Crucible- Webquest
This webquest is designed to give students background information relating to the concepts of McCarthyism and the Salem Witch Trials. I utilized this lesson prior to beginning to read "The Crucible" by Arthur Miller. It requires students to read several articles, complete Cornell notes and a graphic organizer , which are included. Teachers can use a student discussion (fish bowl, Socratic Seminar) following this activity as a formal assessment.

Every year I direct a Shakespeare play with my middle schoolers, and I use this webquest to introduce my students to the world of Elizabethan theatre. Great resource for higher level (high school) students who already have background knowledge of Shakespeare. Instead of a lecture on Shakespeare, students get to do some guided research of their own in order to gain a full understanding of the history of the play and time period.
