Nature of Science Vocabulary Chants

Chants are an exciting and effective teaching strategy. This Nature of Science pack contains five chants about topics such as the scientific method and safety. Why chants? Chants are embedded with science vocabulary and concepts, crucial to lesson content. They use music and rhythm, devices that help students retain the information longer. Chants are a tried and true strategy for ELL learners (as well as all learners). Most of all, they pique interest in the lesson and pre-teach key lesson point

This song is great for Black Heritage Month, a unit on Identity, MLK Day, and preterite and imperfect identification. Students will watch the video, read the lyrics, identify preterite and imperfect verbs, then they will answer a series of questions which will guide them through understanding the song. Last they will answer some personal questions and make connections to their lives. This will take more than one class period unless you have block scheduleing.

These 6 original verses were added to my favorite Barney & Friends song, "If All the Raindrops." I reveal one verse at a time each time it rains, until all 8 verses are complete. Then we draw a picture of the "delicious" rain! This is a great way to fulfill your weather TEKS.

The Particle Song- Helping Kids Remember Basic Particle Theory Principles

This is an extremely simple little song (with actions!) to help your students remember basic particle principles (ie. states of matter, expansion and contraction). You will find simple lyrics- it is to the tune of Row Row Row your boat, as well as actions. There is no recording, or link to YouTube video, because I am definitely not putting myself out there like that! It is very simple and the kids will have it memorized in two minutes. This is what makes it effective- the kids will remember t

Music was an important part of the Civil RIghts Movement.Having students analyze song lyrics can increase interest and participation while connecting them to culture. The corresponding questions relate to course content like symbolism, theme, figurative language, direct text evidence, allusion, and the Civil Rights Movement. The formatting may look a little wonky on a Word Document.I recommend putting this on a GoogleDoc and setting it to "pageless."

Poetry improves fluency. Poems help students remember and gain a deeper understanding of subjects. This "Scientific Process" poem can be used as a straight read, or it can be a call-and-echo cadence. (Think of the call-and-response of military running formations...) Use it during reading to reinforce your science studies of the scientific process. Use it in science as an introduction, or share with students as a summary for test prep. Have fun, and watch for more poems and interactive test

FREEBIE - Scientific Method Song

FREEBIE! This is a fun song I wrote to help teach and explain the scientific method to students. For South Carolina teachers, this aligns to: 3.S.1A.3 Plan and conduct scientific investigations to answer questions, test predictions and develop explanations: (1) formulate scientific questions and predict possible outcomes, (2) identify materials, procedures, and variables, (3) select and use appropriate tools or instruments to collect qualitative and quantitative data, and (4) record and represe

The Magnet March

This song covers many of the basic aspects of magnets, such as the names and locations of the poles, the strength of a magnet, and the types of materials that are magnetic. All learners, particularly musical learners, may benefit from marching to this song as it is sung. The teacher should read one line at a time and have the students repeat.

This song about Dr. Martin Luther King was written in response to the book My Brother Martin, written by Christine King Farris, published by Aladdin Paperbacks in 2003. In the book, she recounts the day Martin's friends from across the street said that they could no longer play together. Their mother tried to explain by saying, "White people just don't understand that every one is the same, but someday they will." Christine quotes Martin as saying, "Mother Dear, one day I'm going to turn this
