This Cultures of Africa Choice Menu is a great way for students to dive into and research cultures within a country. It involves student choice and creativity. This project self-differentiates as students choose projects of varying difficulty and complexity, with good rigor. It is a 3-4 day lesson to give students adequate time to research and create each project. It is a great start of unit project to introduction to African cultures, or an end of unit research project assessment.

In this project students will combine their knowledge of Egyptian history with their own creativity and personality. Students will take on the role of an egyptian pharaoh or queen who is trying to pass on to the afterlife. Students will write a speech to the gods convincing them why they should go on to the afterlife or not, choose their tomb and design their sarcophagus / burial chamber. Includes both a writing and art poster component.

Early Reformers: Abolitionist and Suffragette Trading Cards
As a nice way to close up the early reformers unit, students choose to make trading cards for either abolitionists or suffragettes based upon their interests. The people, events, and locations that have been selected for this small project are in alignment with NYS CC standards 7.7b and 7.7c.
Included is the project page, the trading card templates, and rubric. You can choose to either display the cards, have kids trade them, or add them to their notebooks once they’re finished!
