I use this closer to the end of the year and give students multiple weeks to finish assignment. Thanksgiving Measurement Project
Students are given explicit directions to complete a fall festival map full of pumpkins and turkeys! They must follow directions to draw the required items using a ruler and a pencil. Students can use their imaginations as they decorate their festival or make it 3-dimensional for extra points. Cake Boss 3-D Measurement Assessment
Students will create a three tier/layer cake model out of construction paper that is big enough to feed 8 people. Each tier/layer must be a different polygonal prism. 2 of the tiers/layers must have the same volume. Students will also need to give the surface area in square cm and square mm as well as the volume in cubic cm. The final step will be calculating how much frosting is necessary if each container covers 100 square cm.
