This essay is aligned with the common core standards and works as a final essay for any novel or fictional text. This essay asks students to analyze how the theme of the story emerges, how it is refined, and how it is fully developed by the end of the novel.

Student read and discuss the poem "One Inch Tall" by Shel Silverstein, noting the rhyme scheme, paraphrasing each stanza, and analyzing the speaker, their perspective, and ideas conveyed.
Then, students will write an original poem from the perspective of someone who is 15 Ft tall. they will use the planning sheets, the structure of Silverstein's poem, and a teacher model to create an original poem.
