Freak The Mighty Fun and Creative Mini Projects
Often time students (and teachers) tire of the basic "read the chapter and answer the questions" material that goes along with novel units. This document contains mini projects that can be completed in one or two class periods or as homework. These mini projects relate to the content of the book and can check reading comprehension as well as engage the multiple intellegences that allow the students to be creative when reflecting on their reading. The Outsiders Project
An end of the unit project for S.E. Hinton's novel, The Outsiders. A learning contract type setup allows students to choose from a number of options ranging from index trading cards to movie soundtracks, with the goal of earning 100 points. A "4-square" character diagram is included for further research on a character from the book. As a way to close my book clubs, I like to have the students create a Google Slideshow and present it to the class! Students can collaborate on creating 1 slideshow with their groups, or they can create their individual slideshow. Instead of having them write a reflection essay, this is a great and fun way to assess their learning and reading!

Giver Project
A fun activity for students to complete with the novel The Giver by Lois Lowry! Appropriate for grades 5-8. This is a Word Document that describes the Family Traditions Project to the students. Both "The Landlady" and "Lamb to the Slaughter" by Roald Dahl have ambiguous endings, or in terms of my students, leave off on a cliffhanger. Why not give them a chance to add onto the story to write their own endings?
