March Madness Reading Tournament
This is a project that is great for the intermediate grades! Students select a book to enter into a class March Madness: Battle of the Books Tournament. They will create a persuasive poster and write a persuasive essay encouraging their classmates to vote for their book.
The books are put into brackets and voted on during multiple weeks. It starts with the "Sweet 16," "Elite 8," "Final 4," and then a winner is determined.

STAAR Surgeons
This is a great way to start working on STAAR passages with your students after the holidays. It is a very bright idea a coworker shared with me about four years ago to start implementing STAAR simulations in the classroom. I modified it a bit and gave it a name as well designed the thinking tracks that go along with it. It is a extremely engaging way to apply all knowledge previously taught in the classroom. 5th Grade Ecosystems and Genetics Food Chain Project and Unit Study Guide
This file contains an extension project focusing on food chains. I created this for my higher leveled students to work on while I was doing remediation activities with those who needed it. Fantasy Vacation Internet Research Project
This lesson plan was designed to increase the computer literacy and internet research skills of 7th and 8th grade English Language Learners with very little experience with computers. Students use the internet to schedule a flight, hotel, transportation and visits to attractions within a two-week time span. Students must carefully budget their expenses. Students use power point to organize their information and photos. The assignment sheet and grading rubric are within the Notebook file.
