My AutoBiography Final Project Differentiated
This writing project is for the end of the semester for 7th-8th Grade students, could be used as a follow up or companion while reading autobiography pieces. This was a long project, you can take it all or do part of it, you can adjust it and use pages that fit your students. I also included a differentiated version of the original project. The Holocaust: Creating a Museum At Your School
Each spring, my seventh graders turned our school library in our rural, isolated town into their own “museum” filled with exhibits that displayed what they had learned in their research of the Holocaust. Fear and Response Poem - Creative Writing Halloween Activity
This activity is a perfect assignment as the year nears Halloween, or anytime you study a piece of literature that deals with a character's fears.
The students determine three fears they have (however each must fit in a different category, as described in the assignment), and after describing each fear they write a response to it. In their response, the students explain how they can conquer their fear.

This is a culminating activity for Six Trait Writing instruction. Spending about 30min a day for six days, I read a different picture book that highlights one of the traits. The Giver Community Flyer Assignment
In this creative assignment, students will design a flyer/brochure as an advertisement for Jonas’ community in The Giver. They will use persuasive writing skills to entice the reader to want to join the community and highlight the aspects that people seeking a utopian society would be drawn to. Digging deeper into the novel, this assignment gives students the chance to explore the aspects of Sameness, and deepen their understanding of the characters and setting.

Connect Reading to Writing: "The Gift of the Magi"
Students will analyze the literary text “The Gift of the Magi.” They will make predictions and create visual representations of key vocabulary. The main writing assignment is a one-paragraph summary of the short story. Students will also view the film version of “The Gift of the Magi.” Students will then write a summary about the film.
