Description

Want a fun unit to kickstart your Grade 7-8 year? This unit will be just the ticket! Students will start with a rant write, persuading others why they have a certain pet peeve and why it’s important. This unit is focused on the theme of persuasion, and encompasses a variety of mediums, through visual advertising, video advertising, and persuasion in news sources and writing. Students in the present day are bombarded in a visual age where rarely is presented true information, so the intent of this unit is to equip them with the skills necessary to navigate our media world and also with the ability to persuade. Students are taught the power of words, and how people can manipulate words to their own advantage and gain, and students are taught common techniques on how they do this, to be more aware of what may be fake news.

Included in this unit plan are:

- Unit Rationale

- Curriculum outcomes for AB 7-8

- Assessment Plan (Formative and Summative)

- Detailed Unit Calendar (with teaching, activities, curriculum, and assessment).

- Detailed Day-By-Day Breakdown (including approximate times for minilessons and activities).

- Ad Creation Assignment

- Facts & Assumptions Worksheet

- Summative Final Assignment

This unit will last 4 weeks, and is based on lessons that are about 80 minutes in length. This unit is based on Alberta's curriculum.
