TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am a 31-year veteran educator. I have taught English to grades seven through eleven, college-level Composition I and II, Survival Reading for College, eighth grade and high school U.S. History, honors Oklahoma History and adult basic education/GED preparation. I served as a Literacy Instruction Coach for three years. I was a College Board Pre-AP consultant from 2003 until 2018 and have presented at several summer institutes and one- and two-day conferences.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I LOVE working with teachers, helping them reach their full potential and providing resources and collaborating on units across the curriculum. I believe learning should be fun! I rarely use textbooks and love challenging my students and myself. My main goal as a teacher is to be a Facilitator of Learning. I believe that too often, in their misguided efforts at reform, people who are not teachers use the science of education (test data) to destroy the art of teaching and the love of learning. We should be celebrating and nurturing our students' natural gifts of curiosity and expression, not filling-in irrelevant blanks in a grammar book.
