A.C.E. is a rubric that rates explanations of math problems using words. Originally designed by a team of teachers from across disciplines, this rubric was tailored specifically for math problems. (How often does that happen?) A.C.E. stands for "Answer the question, Cite your evidence, and Explain how your evidence connects to your answer." Each section has a separate rating ranging from 0 to 2, for a total of 6 points for the explanation.

Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI) has been a school wide initiative this year. CGI allows educators to tell a math story (math problem) to the students. Three students must retell the story to demonstrate understanding. The class will then work independently to solve the problem. Attached is a rubric I created to grade the CGI problems. The goal is for students to be able to solve the problem in multiple ways demonstrating full understanding. Hope this is helpful !
