Students are asked to create a Rite of Passage mini-research project. They can be introduced to this using the Hatchet Lesson 4 PowerPoint where they begin by reading "A Boy Called Slow". The project includes a graphic organizer to get them started and a rubric to grade the project.

This is a great, student-friendly, rubric to help them write a strong reading response every week. It can be used to help parents understand the expectations as well. RL.6.1- RL.6.10 Data Template (Standard and Depth of Knowledge)
Fairly simple way to keep track of students mastery of the 6th grade Reading Literature standards at the different Depths of Kowledge. Keep track of what level they are at on mastery. Typically, I use knowledge and understanding of vocabulary as DOK 1. This is a safe and easy way to keep track of student mastery progress and these "temperature checks" can easily facilitate differentiation! I use them and they totally motivate my 6th graders!!!
