This is a student friendly powerpoint I created from the GMAS 3rd Grade Item & Scoring Sampler to help my students review and understand the 3 ELA written questions and 2 math written questions that appear on the Georgia Milestones test. All information was taken from the Georgia EOG for 3rd grade and adapted into an easy-to-understand powerpoint. This is a kid-friendly version of the 4 point rubric utilized to score extended responses on the Common Core New York State ELA test. One suggestion of how to use this rubric is to have the students rate their own writing on the rubric. Then, separately, you score their response using the rubric. In a conference, you can compare re

This is a kid-friendly version of the 2 point rubric utilized to score short responses on the Common Core New York State ELA test. I used this to help students understand what is expected of them in their short responses. Frequently, I would paste a small version of this rubric below areas where students would provide a short response. That way, after writing their response, students can rate their own work. This serves as a great self-assessment tool, and reminder of what the expectation is!

We developed this rubric and scaffold in order to help our student prepare for the CMAS standardized test. We scoured through the requirements and then used this rubric to communicate clearly with our students what is expected of them on a compare and contrast essay question. I am sure most standardized tests ask for similar expectation. We have also found that this helps students understand compare and contrast text structure.
