Writing a Short Story Paragraph Grade Two
It’s difficult to tell a good story in just one paragraph, but a basic short story (telling what happened) can be written in a longer on (about eight sentences). This rubric is designed to help students write a story paragraph. It’s best used after similar paragraphs have been modeled (see my other product, a second grade narrative template for help with this). Simple Narrative Paragraph Rubric Grade One
This digital download is designed to help first graders tackle the daunting task of writing a story. It’s also designed to be a handy grading and assessing tool for the teacher. The finished pry should be a four sentence paragraph with an introduction, two events, and a conclusion.

Class Critique Rubric
This requires some sensitivity. If kids are going to critique each other’s work, they need to be honest but constructive. The notes are for discussion, like “two stars and a wish.” They are not for the kids to trash each other’s work. This rubric is a good way for kids to get involved in the writers workshop model of creative writing. The grading section at the bottom is optional, but kids often think in terms of grading, so it’s good for feedback.

This rubric is designed to help fifth graders understand what‘s expected from them when they are writing a story. It’s also designed to be a handy tool for the teacher to use for assessing and grading these narratives. This digital download was made in alignment with Georgia English language arts standards, which are similar to Common Core standards. Rubrics are the best tools for writing assignments because they allow teachers to award points instead of penalizing student work.

Writing a Story Grade 3
This is a checklist/rubric for students to use when writing a fictional story. The criteria are based on GA standards, similar to Common Core, and personal teaching experience. This allows kids to know exactly what’s expected of them and to help teachers assess and grade the work consistently. I love rubrics because they allow teachers to award points instead of just counting things wrong. This positive mindset can be a very helpful teaching tool.
