Students learn about the petroglyphs of the Ancestral Puebloans from Mesa Verde and create their own “glyphs” by incising oil pastel with pencil. Students learn about symbols in their environment and create their own, not copying those of the Ancestral Puebloans. The physical process of making these pictures is parallel to those of making petroglyphs. National Visual Arts Standards for grades 2-5 are included.
