This is generally aTWO-DAY investigation that the students do in small groups.The students use their knowledge of 30-60-90 triangles to come up with the values for sine and cosine within the context of a Ferris wheel. Unit Circle and Trigonometry Exploratory Activity
This 80-minute group-work packet covers the fundamentals of Unit Circle trigonometry, pushing students to find trig values, analyze graphs, and use and prove trigonometric identities with proofs and plug-ins. This is challenging and I typically collect one packet per group and grade 10 "random" problems. This means it takes the class about 2 periods or 1 block, but only takes me 20 minutes or so to grade!

This is meant to be an interesting deep-dive into the origin of trigonometry, showing how it developed from the ancient Hellenic world, to China, India, and in Europe.
