Ape or Pig Blood for Human Transfusion? Reading and Questions
This awesome article from Genetic Literacy Project poses the idea of getting blood transfusions from apes or pigs. A great follow up activity after a mini unit on blood typing or ABO Blood Genetics/Punnett Squares. Also great for enrichment when entering the genetic/genetic engineering units. My students enjoy reading this article and the questions I wrote as comprehension questions serve as a great way to hold them accountable to complete the reading.

Ectomy: a brain parts board game
Nine major brain regions, one set of forceps: how long will it take your students to put their brain together and win?Each student gets a blank brain map, but all of its parts are in a pool in the middle. Draw a card and answer the question correctly to win that brain part. What if you win two of the same lobes? Trade with other players to get a complete set as fast as you can! DNA PAPER MODEL to cut and assemble
This model of DNA is more detailed than most paper models designed for students. Here you can see every atom! You can see how and why the bases connect, and you can see the difference between ribose and deoxyribose. Explaining the 5′ and 3′ directions is easy because the carbons are numbered. The downside of this model is that it is flat, not a 3D helix shape, but I have yet to find a 3D model that can also show all the atoms, so I took the downside here in favor of making the chemistry visi

Human Body Systems: 3D Life-Sized Models Project
Students will work in groups to create 3D life-size head-torso models, to include 5 body systems. The students will research the systems, organs and their functions.
I created this project for 7th grade GT students to expose them to biology. Students were genuinely engaged and the end product was more than I could have asked for! The project does take time, but was well worth it.
