Being GT and ADHD, I had my share of frustration in the classroom. I try to allow students as much freedom and choice as they can handle. I try to make the assignments I give have real-world application and problem solving. I believe in allowing students to manage their own time with appropriate reminders. If they choose to work on something else during time I set aside for individual/group work, I trust them to get it done on their own time. I generally don't assign homework, unless the student chooses to use class time for other work/leisure. Building classroom culture and practicing healthy communication is extremely important to me. I do believe all behavior is communication, and I try not to take misbehavior personally.
