ACT Science Practice Chromosomes and Inheritability Worksheet
I wrote this practice passage as like the ACT practice passages are for Science Section. I catered it towards my current unit in Biology on Genetics- specifically chromosomes, inheritability and meiosis. The answer key and some ACT Science tricks are included on the last pages. Ape or Pig Blood for Human Transfusion? Reading and Questions
This awesome article from Genetic Literacy Project poses the idea of getting blood transfusions from apes or pigs. A great follow up activity after a mini unit on blood typing or ABO Blood Genetics/Punnett Squares. Also great for enrichment when entering the genetic/genetic engineering units. My students enjoy reading this article and the questions I wrote as comprehension questions serve as a great way to hold them accountable to complete the reading.

DNA PAPER MODEL to cut and assemble
This model of DNA is more detailed than most paper models designed for students. Here you can see every atom! You can see how and why the bases connect, and you can see the difference between ribose and deoxyribose. Explaining the 5′ and 3′ directions is easy because the carbons are numbered. The Enzyme Game
Round out a biology unit on enzymes with this review game. 8 enzyme cards, 14 substances, and a spinner that directs all players to pick up, lay down, or trade a card. Players try to assemble three-card sets of enzyme, the substance it operates on, and the parts it breaks down into (for example, Amylase, Starch, Glucose). Human Body Systems: 3D Life-Sized Models Project
Students will work in groups to create 3D life-size head-torso models, to include 5 body systems. The students will research the systems, organs and their functions.
I created this project for 7th grade GT students to expose them to biology. Students were genuinely engaged and the end product was more than I could have asked for! The project does take time, but was well worth it.
