Main Idea; Literary Text; Modified for Special Ed

This worksheet is modified from the middle school reading curriculum. Students are asked to read the short paragraph and circle from a field of two which is the main idea. This enhances test-taking skills for students. For alternate ideas, have students use highlighters to highlight key words that help them identify the main idea. This is excellent for special education students who require an alternate or modified curriculum. It is also an excellent worksheet for general education students i

This multiple-meaning word worksheet is modified from the middle school reading curriculum and is based on Amelia Earhart. It aligns with the Maryland Alternate State Curriculum Objective: 3.A.7.b Given a modified grade-level literary text or a portion of that text, student will identify the meaning of a multiple meaning word in context. Differentiated Close Reading Worksheet; Special Ed; Directly Stated in Text

This worksheet is modified from the middle school reading and science curriculum. It has a short informational passage about Earth. There are two worksheets that look the same to students. This is an easy way to differentiate because students will not realize that their paper is different from that of their peers. One worksheet requires students to write in the answers, where the other has two answer choices for students to circle. This is excellent for special education students who require

Students use this brochure (see all pages in publisher file) to review. Use task cards or other review questions to create 5 stations that students will rotate through. Set an expectation of a specific number of questions that must be answered correctly before they can move to the next station. Works great with task cards. One person can be the team captain and check other student's work. I've used stamps to mark the number of questions answered correctly. This is a method to keep student

Book tastings are a fun and engaging way to get kids to try new books! I used this as an after-school activity but it could easily be used in a reading class or any class where a book is being picked. We dressed up as waitresses and gave students this menu. We had the books preselected on a cart. Students can circle what books they want and then put their order in. This product is a tasting menu that you can edit to use for your program. *It is a publisher file.

These are some of the most common prefixes used. I created a poster for each with the prefix, meaning and example. I printed mine using my classroom colors and then backed them on card stock. Since I am using these for hanging in my classroom, I also laminated them. I find that it is another resource for my struggling readers to use when searching for the meaning of unfamiliar words. Enjoy!!

The handout instructs students to make a prediction, ask a question, make a comment, clarify something they understand, make a connection, or reread information for their group.
