Quadrilaterals Notes and Graphic Organizer

These are two notes pages that I used to teach my students how to sort Quadrilaterals. We color coded similarities on the table, and then went through how to use the flow chart in order to describe and definite different types of quadrilaterals.

Mars Landing Module STEM Challenge (Egg Drop) - Middle or High School Physics

This is a multi-step, usually multi-week Engineering Project that I did in 8th grade physics class for many years, and it was ALWAYS super fun and a highlight of the year. It accompanies a Physics Unit on Mass, Forces, Gravity, and KE & PE Energy, and is best to incorporate project into a 4-6 week unit. It can easily be adapted for grades 6-12, varying the concepts of physics that are expected to be demonstrated. The students design a "landing module" to theoretically land on Mars, while succ

Parallel Lines Cut by a Transversal Vocabulary

The Math Table
This graphic organizer provides students with definitions and to the right they must use a color to identify what they are on the parallel lines cut by a transversal. It gives the students a visual of the vocabulary they are learning. I used this on day 2 with my students to reinforce how we had defined them the day before. I left it as a word document so you can choose to give your students the definitions or take them away and make them define the words themselves. If you choose you could a

How to Use A Biltmore Stick - Guide to using them

A guide on how to use a Biltmore Stick! For those of us who teach forestry we know the drill ... you could tell them 100 times and they will still forget. This step by step guide helps them to use the Biltmore stick correctly!

Converting Units of Measure with Tic-Tac-Toe

Susan Thomas
As most teachers are aware, many students struggle with converting units of measure, both customary and metric. Even using the mathematics chart provided for our state test, students often perform the incorrect operation and end up dividing instead of multiplying, or visa versa. The method described and illustrated here can eliminate that common error. In addition, those students struggling to master using the "King Henry" method to convert metric units will find the Tic-Tac-Toe method very u

Nets and Surface Area Activity

Help students understand the relationship between nets and 3D figures while also learning area and surface area. Students color code their net and the 3D figure to make connections between the two figures. This includes a two day task list for students, a note sheet and an example of what the final product could look like (if the same figures are chosen). Note: This is a template - you can provide any 3D figure you would like students to work on. If you have a certain request or would like a co

Here is a worksheet that I used extensively to help students learn how to use the factor label method (or dimensional analysis). It can be used for non-chemistry unit conversions. It is a great scaffolding worksheet. And students love the shapes. I used this in conjunction with the mneumonic "Got Cravings For Skipping." "Got" stands for the "Given" of the problem, "Cravings For" stands for the appropriate "Conversion Factor(s)" and "Skipping" stands for "Solving" at the end. Factor Label Work

In this download, you will find the formulas and step by steps of how to find area (parallelograms, triangles, trapezoids, circles, semi-circles), circumference (circle), volume (rectangular & triangular prisms, cylinders), and surface area (rectangular prism, cylinder). This is perfect for special education or when students are first learning how to calculate these types of problems. Each page is filled with the same type of problem (i.e. all area of a parallelogram).

Area versus Volume: Making Sense of Geometric Formulas

Do your students struggle with units involved with perimeter, area and volume, not knowing when to leave them alone, square or cube them? If so, this will be a great source for you! It breaks down the three basic concepts of perimeter (1D), area (2D) & volume (3D) to help students understand what is being represented and what should happen to their units as well. It also helps students relate area formulas to volume formulas to make better sense of why we use those formulas to calculate

This is a SUPER Awesome tool for your kids (and yourself) to use!! It is kind of hard to print, but I had to do it this way in order for me to get it on one document. Printing Instructions: Print page 1. Using the same paper (I used cardstock), place paper backwards so it will print the second page correctly on the back side of page 1. Final flip chart will look like the pictures! Contact me with any questions! :)
