Revising and Editing Checklist
This is a revising and editing checklist that I use with my students to help them recognize the differences between revising the content of their work and editing the mechanics of their work.
We do a lot of peer revision and editing You can laminate the checksheet and have students fill it out with a whiteboard marker to cut down on paper usage.

This is a PDF you can print on the Plotter (if you are lucky enough to have one at your school) as a poster, print it from a color printer, OR my favorite...after our Writing Workshop mini-lesson, I always have "mini posters" the students can glue into their notebooks. If you take this document and print 4 pages (multiple sheets per page) and then cut them in fourths, you have your mini-posters :)

Rough Draft Paper for Peer Editing
This is a Rough Draft Paper that is created for peer editing. The top says draft so the students can easily identify it. I also print it on different colored paper. At the bottom there are boxes that students need to have check off and initialed by another student and then eventually the teacher in order to move on to final draft. Enjoy.

STAAR Lined Paper
During the STAAR writing tests, students are provided one 26-line page to write each composition. While students may use all 26 lines to respond to each prompt, they cannot write more than 26 lines. Grading Rubric for Essays
After spending hours grading essays, I developed a quicker rubric that cut my time in half. I found that I was writing the same comment on many papers. This rubric has the major/common areas that need improvement: punctuation, spelling, simple word usage, lack of support/elaboration, lack of transition words, and simple sentence usage. Editor's Checklist for Students
This Editor's Checklist is used in my classroom to help students edit their writing. Students take one checklist (approximately a 3X3 square) and staple to their first draft. Students go through and edit for capitalization, punctuation, spelling, and whether or not each sentence makes sense. Once they finish each step of the editing process, they check off the corresponding box. This way I know they looked at their work critically before handing it to me to look over.
