Stretching a Sentence Smartboard Going From Good to Great Sentences
This is a Smartboard activity. I have used this method to help my students go from writing simple sentences to visual sentences. It works in second grade and can work in upper grades. Kids love the way their writing improves when they start using adjectives and adverbs in their writing. You must have Notebook software to use this activity. 12 slides.

Writing Hooks - Fishing For A Hook Activity (Smart Notebook Version)
Students have a hard time understanding hooks, and the importance of a good "hook". This engaging lesson will have students literally "fishing for hooks". They will discover the importance of hooks in their persuasive writing. Argument Game (Practise persuasive / exposition / debating language)
This is a notebook slide adapted from a simple 'argument' game. I used this in my fourth grade class as a fun game to practise persuasive language.
Two students at a time (could be played in teams). Each student presses interactive dice which determines which topic will be argued. Students then need to give 2 arguments for their side. Class can vote on who had the better points. Winner can continue with new opponent.

Ah, Earth Day! This is an Earth Day sorting activity for the Smart Board™. It is suitable for primary grades (Pre-K, Kindergarten and First Grade, mostly). Sorting items into categories is a basic math skill.
