This is a Smartboard activity. I have used this method to help my students go from writing simple sentences to visual sentences. It works in second grade and can work in upper grades. Writing Hooks - Fishing For A Hook Activity (Smart Notebook Version)
Students have a hard time understanding hooks, and the importance of a good "hook". This engaging lesson will have students literally "fishing for hooks". Argument Game (Practise persuasive / exposition / debating language)
This is a notebook slide adapted from a simple 'argument' game. I used this in my fourth grade class as a fun game to practise persuasive language.
Two students at a time (could be played in teams). Each student presses interactive dice which determines which topic will be argued. Students then need to give 2 arguments for their side. Class can vote on who had the better points. Winner can continue with new opponent.

SmartBoard attendance file - President's Day theme
This is a single attendance file, also available in a set of seven winter/spring holiday themed files for $5.50. It is a fun and convenient way to take attendance. Students move their piece as instructed on the file when they enter the room. After all students are seated, those that have not been moved are the students who are absent. The preview file shows a picture of one in progress in my class. The file itself has the word "name" instead of actual names. You can then replace the word "name"
