Geometry Project - Geometry Town

Created by
Judy and Brett
Students will create a town map made of different geometric figures. They will demonstrate their knowledge of parallel and perpendicular lines, acute and obtuse angles, geometric shapes as well as many other geometric concepts through this creative and fun project. This project can be adapted to higher level geometry courses and high school classes. You can add parameters to the geometric shaped buildings (ex. must label the dimensions of the building given a certain area or perimeter).

Project and Rubric - Real World Math (The Pythagorean Theorem)

"In math class, you have learned about the Pythagorean Theorem. You have also seen examples of how the Pythagorean Theorem is used in ‘real life.’ For this task you will create your own “real life” Pythagorean Theorem word problem and model using the following steps..." Students will create and solve their own word problem, construct a 3D model of their scenario, and then write a reflection on their process and experience. *Rubric is included. *This project was created in collaboration with c

Transformations Project Translations Reflections Rotations Dilations

Help students learn transformation rules through this engaging activity that requires higher level thinking. Students use the transformation rules to create an underwater theme on graph paper. Don't like the Little Mermaid? Change the directions to have students create a Halloween theme, zoo theme, etc. The steps for completion remain the same. I've tried several different themes and all work great! Students will demonstrate their understanding of translations, rotations, reflections and d

IRCMom Math
This project is designed to be used after studying similarity. Students are required to choose a logo model it with a simpler shape, and scale it to fit a small object, medium object and large object. Further they are asked to research the costs relating to actually making the object based on the area of the logo. A rubric is included.

This quadrilateral flow chart puts all the properties of the different types of quadrilaterals that I know onto one well-organized worksheet loaded with tons of information. I've made this a word document because I realize there might be more or less properties you'd like to have on this. You are welcome to modify this worksheet. I have a colorful version and a black and white version depending on what you are looking for. I hope you find this useful. Please visit www.doucehouse.com for vid

24 Posters for Geometry Standards

These make it quick and easy to post the standards that you are teaching each day. Reworded into language that students understand and using a large bold font, they can be read from a distance. This set includes 24 posters, each 8.5" by 11". I post these above my white board at the front of the room, backing them with colored construction paper, or you can laminate them and post them day by day or chapter by chapter. They are in Word and can be easily edited to remove the California standard

This poster visually shows how to label the sides of a right triangle (legs, hypotenuse) and proves the PYTHAGOREAN THEOREM. The question at the bottom, "What's the final step?" is a reminder for students to find the SQUARE ROOT after using the equation. I have this printed out in large poster size in color and laminated in my classroom. Students refer to it often as they are solving problems involving missing side lengths of right triangles.

Check out other projects by The Eclectic Emerald! Similar figures have the same shape, but are not typically the same size. Students will use photographs and indirect measurement to determine how tall objects are around their school, home, or town. Students will need (or be introduced to) knowledge of ratios, proportions, similar figures, and indirect measurement. This is a good project as a chapter wrap up or even as an introductory/discovery project into a new chapter. Please rate my pr
