Finding Poetic elements and figurative language in Katy Perry's "Roar"

With "Justin Bieber fever" being so contagious in my 5th grade classroom, I decided to make new words to Bieber's popular "Boyfriend" song. The lyrics are fast moving and review the concept of erosion. It was a big hit in my classroom. Even the "Bieber haters" were converted. We sang along with the YouTube. Listening to holiday songs in the classroom can add to the spirit of the season, but often those popular songs have an interesting origin and meaning. The song “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” by Band Aid (1984) is one example of “festive” music with a meaningful history.
