Exponential Functions Project - Life After College Budget

Exponential Functions and Their Applications to Financial Situations Life After College Budget Project This project is one of the best things that I do. I have used it for several years and it has undergone several revisions. I use it primarily with my Pre-Calculus students but have used it with Algebra 2 with very good results. A co-worker, Dave Roberston also a TPT contributor, created a spreadsheet for making the grading easy to do- I have this available for download as well but could no

Credit Card Debt Project (Exponential Functions in the Real World)

Through this project, students will…- Apply exponential functions in the real world.- Become aware of the increasing credit card debt in the United States.- Learn to be careful consumers of credit to avoid unnecessary short falls, huge debt, and bad credit ratings.- Use the knowledge that they gather through research and assignments, to create a PowerPoint presentation about the responsible use of credit in our society. They will also create pamphlets that provide useful information about credit

Functions in the Real World Project

This is a wonderful project that I enjoy doing every year at the end of my Algebra 2 class. After having learned about many different types of functions, students get to research applications of functions in the real-world. Students will create a report on 3 different types of functions (one sample function included for students' reference), and will prepare a presentation on one of the functions to present to the class. This file contains everything you need to implement this project:- Detailed

Global Crisis Project (Exponential Functions)

The goal of the Global Crisis Project is to have students see and understand real applications for exponential functions. Students will do research on the population growth rate (globally or they may choose a specific location) and investigate the effect that a related global issue such as waste, food, disease, life"expectancy/mortality rate, poverty, inflation, national debt, etc. has on population. Students find accurate data points from reliable internet sources, and will use exponential reg

Functions Regressions Project: Using Math to Predict the Future

This project focuses on different kinds of functions and their applications in the real world. Students will “model with mathematics” using different approaches. In this project students will use modeling techniques to make future predictions using general statistics of a city or country and topic of their choice. Students look at different types of data; they analyze and interpret the data to decide which function best models the data. Students generate regressions of different types of functio

Many homeowners try to pay more on their mortgage each month in the hopes that it will save them money in the long run. Is this an accurate belief? For this exercise, you will determine the minimum payment for different mortgage products. You will also decide whether it is worth paying early. Note this exercise will not address the possibility of late or early payments, tax breaks for making an extra payment every year and other variables. Some of those are addressed in the extension assignment

Twelve Days of Christmas Vacation Activity

Interactive school posters offer students a variety of fun and interesting ways to apply their knowledge and insight in some of their classes. The Twelve Days of Vacation Activity poster is geared for high school students with appropriate algebraic and geometric skills, and involves applications of logic. Because it reflects a holiday theme, the activity should be given just prior to winter/Christmas vacation. Use the two 8.5" x 11" colored masters to produce enough colored back-to-back c

A Greek Champion Activity

A Greek Champion Activity poster is geared for high school students with appropriate algebraic and geometric skills, and involves applications of logic. From a story-telling perspective, students encounter different obstacles that challenge them to use their math skills to complete an exciting adventure. Use the two 8.5" x 11" colored masters to produce enough colored back-to-back copies for a classroom set. It is advisable to have the copies laminated for future use. The "A Greek Champion

Mathematics Research Project

This is a great end of year research project for any math course at a multitude of grade levels! From start to end of presentations, this project took me two weeks to complete - I give specific dates for each goal and give a grade for completion of each goal. The points I gave are listed on the information sheet. I created this in Word and it can be edited to fit your classroom and your needs. Students are asked to research a famous mathematician, write a research paper and give a presentation.
