Slope Poster (slope, converting to slope-intercept form, point-slope form and graphing equations) The students are given two ordered pairs, and must write the slope formula in addition to finding and simplifying the slope. After that they need to put the information into point-slope form, and then convert that to slope intercept by distributing and combining like terms. The final step is to graph the line using any of the equations they want to. There is a rubric attached to score it out of 30 p

Why do we need to know this? Who uses this in the real world? What is the point of this? Ah, some of my favorite questions! Its time for a "mathematics in the real world" activity! Clean-up of the Pollutomax is an environmental/water pollution themed activity to demonstrate how algebraic rational expressions can be used to model real world situations. Development in the Pollutomax River's watershed means that much of the rainwater now bypasses natural filtering systems and washes off of ro

Why do we need to know this? Who uses this in the real world? What is the point of this? Ah, some of my favorite questions! Its time for a "mathematics in the real world" activity! This project showcases a real-world application of factoring using a projectile activity to demonstrate how algebraic factoring can be applied to real world situations. To increase the engagement and interactive nature of the project, I've had students make "paper footballs" or little "catapults" to launch cap eraser

I like to call this activity Putt-Putt-Geometry. It is 9 glorious holes of trigonometry application! This works great as a Trig unit project, end of year project, or test review (maybe 1 or 2 holes for review). The students can work in groups, pairs, or individuals. If your students are not proficient with Trig, or you have not covered it yet, each hole can be done using the Pythagorean Theorem instead - simply tweak the directions a bit. I hope your students enjoy this as much as mine do!

Trashing The Pollutomax: A Data Plotting Activity (Circle, Bar, and Line Graphs)

Created by

Trashing The Pollutomax is an environmental/water pollution themed activity to demonstrate how data plots can be used to analyze real world situations. The Pollutomax River's watershed has been over-developed and pollution from many sources has infiltrated the river. In this activity, your students will work together to: 1. Use a data set to construct a line graph displaying dissolved oxygen levels over time. 2. Use historical data to determine the general trend and project future outcomes.

This activity walks students through the calculations to find the true cost of purchasing a vehicle. Students will consider the impact of changing variables such as interest rates, down payments, loan duration, and the purchase price. A thorough instruction page guides students through the process and allows each student to gain an understanding for the formulas used in each step of the process including the calculation of simple interest. After completing the worksheet, students will analy

Linear Equation Standard Slope Intercept Form Graphing Matching Activity Task

Linear Equation Standard Slope Intercept Graphing Matching Activity TaskThis is a hands-on activity that requires students to convert 12 Standard Form Linear Equations into Slope Intercept Form. Once the equations are converted, the students will match up the Standard Form with the corresponding Slope Intercept Form and the correct Graph. Students will cut out and paste the Standard Form, Slope Intercept Form and Graph onto the answer sheet. This makes a great review activity or Sub Day Plans.
