Systems of Equations - Comparing Phone Plans Project

Students are guided through a phone comparison. Then students will research plans and compare them in groups. This activity also includes 4 different homework problems similar to the phone comparison but related to other fields. This project can be performed in any class studying solving systems of equations. In the past, I have had the groups present their findings on a third day. classes: algebra 1, geometry, algebra 2, pre-calculus, calculus, applied math Here are links to my other alge

Many homeowners try to pay more on their mortgage each month in the hopes that it will save them money in the long run. Is this an accurate belief? For this exercise, you will determine the minimum payment for different mortgage products. You will also decide whether it is worth paying early. Note this exercise will not address the possibility of late or early payments, tax breaks for making an extra payment every year and other variables. Some of those are addressed in the extension assignment

The derivation of the Dirac equation

This is a step-by-step derivation of the famous Dirac equation. In particle physics, the Dirac equation is a relativistic wave equation derived by British physicist Paul Dirac in 1928. In its free form, or including electromagnetic interactions, it describes all spin-12 massive particles such as electrons and quarks for which parity is a symmetry.

During the recent swine flu outbreak, I had my Algebra I students analyze the growth rate of the outbreak. This activity asks you to compute linear regression, quadratic regression, and exponential regression using data from the CDC. The students then draw conclusions as to which model matches best. I would love to hear any feedback you might have. (If you use use C-Scope I used this after M&M M & M Population Simulation and Height vs. Bounce in Unit 11)
