Children taste & then color an apple depicting the color of their favorite: red (MacIntosh), dark red (Delicious), green or yellow. The teacher draw a simoliar graph on the whiteboard or posterboard and calls children up to tape their apples to the appropriate column, starting at the bottom axis and working up. Students follow along with their crayons and color in the coordinating rectangles. Great for Back to School, a Johnny Appleseed unit or healthy foods study!

With this activity the students will read a poem called, Be Thankful (I am not sure of the origin of the poem). They will highlight the vowels that they find and make a graph showing their findings.
