This is a one-page rubric in Microsoft Word to use when a student presents a book review for the class. Students LOVE to hear their classmates review books that they read independently. This rubric is aligned with the College and Career Readiness/ Common Core State Standards-- specifically for 7th grade writing. This is not a fast-paced grading rubric; instead, it should follow deep-level instruction in each of the areas it assesses. Feel free to shorten it to your liking, as some students may not find the information as accessible as others. Two of my classes used a less detailed rubric instead.

Quick Write / Short Answer Grading Rubric
I give my students each a number at the beginning of the year and collect their papers in number order so that as I grade I can easily enter grades in my book. I made this rubric for short answer questions also known as quick writes. For each class I teach I staple a pack of about 5 together and go through and grade the papers. This Summary Rubric can be used in any subject and for any written summary of an article, short story, chapter, etc. It is based on the 6+1 Writing Traits and establishes a foundation for students to understand what should be included in a written summary.

Daily Journal Writing Rubric
Short and sweet, this rubric allows you and your students to quickly evaluate a week's worth of daily personal journal entries. Fluency, Communication, and Legibility are scored to emphasize the flow of ideas and keep your students accountable for writing.
