FREE Math Pre-Assessment of Basic Skills: Grades 6-8
This is a FREE Math Pre-Assessment that I use in my Grade 7 classroom. It looks at basic skills - multiplication, division, rounding, place value, area, fractions, percents, decimals etc. It's surprising how many students even in Grade 8 or 9 who struggle with long division, for example. This short pre-assessment gives you a starting place for working with your students in September.

Reading Level Correlation Chart RIT Lexile Guided Reading AR
This correlation chart aligns 4 reading assessment levels: Lexile, MAP Reading RIT, Fountas & Pinnell Guided Reading, and Accelerated Reader. I searched high and low for a correlation chart that aligned RIT's to Guided Reading levels. When I couldn't find one (for standard MAP, not Primary MAP), I created my own. Test Taking Strategies / Follow Directions Prank/Fake Quiz
This quiz is a fun and funny way to get students to realize they need to pay attention to directions.
There is a list of numerous steps to complete, which can actually be fun for students. HOWEVER, the first step says to "read all directions before continuing" and the last step says "only do..." so most students mess this up and do all the steps as they go along. Then you can give them the lesson at the end :)
