FREE Math Pre-Assessment of Basic Skills: Grades 6-8

Created by
Krystal Mills
This is a FREE Math Pre-Assessment that I use in my Grade 7 classroom. It looks at basic skills - multiplication, division, rounding, place value, area, fractions, percents, decimals etc. It's surprising how many students even in Grade 8 or 9 who struggle with long division, for example. This short pre-assessment gives you a starting place for working with your students in September. Teacher-Author: Krystal Mills Math pre-assessment, FREE, diagnostic assessment

Reading Level Correlation Chart RIT Lexile Guided Reading AR

This correlation chart aligns 4 reading assessment levels: Lexile, MAP Reading RIT, Fountas & Pinnell Guided Reading, and Accelerated Reader. I searched high and low for a correlation chart that aligned RIT's to Guided Reading levels. When I couldn't find one (for standard MAP, not Primary MAP), I created my own. MAP RIT's correlate to Lexile Levels, and Lexile levels correlate to Guided Reading Levels, etc. We use this chart to determine starting points for assessments (such as running

Test Taking Strategies / Follow Directions Prank/Fake Quiz

This quiz is a fun and funny way to get students to realize they need to pay attention to directions. There is a list of numerous steps to complete, which can actually be fun for students. HOWEVER, the first step says to "read all directions before continuing" and the last step says "only do..." so most students mess this up and do all the steps as they go along. Then you can give them the lesson at the end :) *Please rate 4 stars if this is useful! Thanks*

IEP Progress Monitoring Editable Data Sheet

It is imperative that special educators have a system for collecting data to show a student's progress towards their IEP goals. If your district is like mine, you have been given free rein to collect data however you choose. I have changed my progress monitoring data collection sheet several times over the past 4 years. I have finally developed one that helps me monitor progress in a more effective and organized manner. I have included a sample goal with benchmarks in this editable document.

Reflection is one of the most powerful research-based strategies for use in the classroom. How many times have you poured over student essays only to hand them back and watch as students take one look at the letter grade and never look back? Or maybe you offer a revision policy but never get the results you want? This is the perfect tool for students to use to actually go back and revisit and reflect on their writing after they have received feedback and a score. It doesn't do for them to just

My students love this lesson. They learn how societies can be oppressive, read about different types, and then create their own laws to see how they can become oppressive. This lesson provides students with an introduction to the characteristics of a dystopia and dystopia genre. It begins by contrasting utopia vs dystopia, continues with 3 examples of societies (2 dystopian, 1 utopian) and has students underline the characteristics, and ends with students creating their own well-intentioned l
