The Essential Question for this unit is: How did music help people resist what the Berlin Wall symbolized? Students will analyze 3 songs from the 1980s released as both a response and in resistance to the wall put up in Cold War Berlin. The songs included for analysis are - Nina's - 99 Red Balloons, Billy Joel's - Honesty, and Vladimir Vysotsky - I Don’t Like. Students will analyze important lyrics, each song's message, and the emotions conveyed by filling out the graphic organizer.
