This is a detective activity for students to see how damaged books may have gotten to their current state. Using any 4 damaged books in your collection, "crime scenes" are set up with that damaged item and any relevant clues (dog treats for chewed on books, crayons for scribbled-in books, an empty cup for wet/sticky books, etc). Students then go around to the crime scenes to try and deduce what happened and who might have done it.
