I give this pre-test for Algebra 1 on the first day of the year. They self-grade their assessment and I enter it in to the gradebook (but not for credit) so that they can see their progress after we review. At the end of the 2nd week I give the revised placement test that is included in a different listing. This helps me assess their incoming skills and determine if students need to be placed into a different class. The scores on this over the past year were incredibly predictive of success in A

Task Cards - Rational Expressions and Equations

I teach an Algebra 2 class over a two year period to at-risk kids. Using task cards helps to decrease their anxiety level with some of the more complex mathematics. These task cards were created using PowerPoint. There are 100 cards that can be printed out on card stock. After printing, laminating the sheets will keep them crisp. Then just cut out the cards and they are ready to go. Students can work together in groups to accomplish the tasks or they can be used at stations or in a practical

As a High School Math teacher I have witnessed my students struggle with solving equations. I created this quick supplemental lesson to aid my classes with this concept during my lesson on solving a system of equations with substitution. It allows me to teach (reteach) on a basic level and build it up. Then I can immediately hand out the assessment and get a quick look at comprehension. I also kept it simple for printing purposes!
