Algebra 1 Day 1 Placement/ Diagnostic Test

I give this pre-test for Algebra 1 on the first day of the year. They self-grade their assessment and I enter it in to the gradebook (but not for credit) so that they can see their progress after we review. At the end of the 2nd week I give the revised placement test that is included in a different listing. This helps me assess their incoming skills and determine if students need to be placed into a different class. The scores on this over the past year were incredibly predictive of success in Algebra 1. The assessment includes place value, whole number operations, fraction operations, simplifying fractions. and order of operations with multiple types of notation. There are 36 questions with a self-grade chart by skill at the end.
