Parts of Speech Practice: Create a Menu (Middle School Grammar)

This is one of my favorite real-life application projects that can be completed individually by students or in partners. The Create Your Own Menu project allows students to use their creativity to think of a type of restaurant they would open, name it, and create a menu for it all while practicing specific and vivid nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, and prepositional phrases. This lesson includes directions handout, student planning guide, and rubric. Created by Pride and Prepositions.

Test Taking Strategies / Follow Directions Prank/Fake Quiz

Created by

This quiz is a fun and funny way to get students to realize they need to pay attention to directions. There is a list of numerous steps to complete, which can actually be fun for students. HOWEVER, the first step says to "read all directions before continuing" and the last step says "only do..." so most students mess this up and do all the steps as they go along. Then you can give them the lesson at the end :) *Please rate 4 stars if this is useful! Thanks*

On Demand Free Writing Assessment - Easy Grade Opinion Writing Prompt

By far one of the biggest “difference makers” for me as a “teacher of writers” has been my use of demand prompts to guide instruction. In our class, we have a balance of free writing, process writing, and demand writing—but for me, the most effective way to ASSESS students is to do a regular demand prompt to see how students are doing on the targets we have worked on all year. Process writing is critical in the classroom, but as students work together, confer, share, revise, and so on—it becomes
