In this assignment, students will apply what they know about the constitutional amendments to real life situations. They will pretend they are a defendant, and prepare an opening statement to defend the rights of the people whose constitutional rights were violated. This can easily be adapted if you want students to have the choice to be the defendant or the prosecutor. The two choices I've provided are the Breonna Taylor case, and a case related to gentrification and eminent domain in Atlanta.
